  • Wholemeal Flour 600 g
  • Plain Flour 100 g
  • Baking Powder 2 tsp
  • Salt 2 pin
  • Eggs 2 med
  • Buttermilk 400 ml
Step 1

Preheat the oven to 170C/325F/Gas Mark 3.

Step 2

Put the wholemeal flour, sieved plain flour and sieved bread soda and salt into a large mixing bowl and mix together.

Step 3

Beat the eggs together and add to the dry mixture.

Step 4

Mix in the buttermilk and get the mix to clump together.

Step 5

Remove from the bowl and knead on a floured worktop for 2 minutes.

Step 6

Roll the bread into a disk shape about 2 inches thick and cross with a knife

Step 7

Place on a floured baking tray and place in the oven for around 45 minutes.

Step 8

After 45 minutes remove from Baking tray and leave in the oven for a further 7 - 10 minutes until the bread is crunchy on the outside and makes a hollow sound when tapped on the bottom

Step 9

Remove from the oven and allow to cool on a ventilated surface.
